Legends of the Classic

So far there are only two past winners of the Guvna's Classic:

1. Pete "Turbo" Beilby (that's him on the left!)

Pete is one of the founding members of the "Turbo Swingers" who are the club that host the Guvna's Classic. A true champion, he is known by a number of names such as "Chicks," "that tubby bitch" or "Cheese" (he will be happy to explain that one but don't for a minute believe his bullshit explanation - if you want the truth as to how Pete got that nickname maybe ask the Guvna for the real story!). Pete, or "Turbo/Turbs" as he is more affectionately known amongst his mates, wrapped himself in glory back in 2002 by taking out the first ever Guvnas Classic with a whopping 44 stableford points.

Turbs would describe himself as a lover, a romantic fool, a gentleman, a smooth operator and a self-confessed ladies man hopelessly addicted to love - luckily there are those of us who know better! Wondering how he got the nickname "Turbs"?? Some say it's because of the erratic and exceptionally fast back swing he takes as he's about to smack the crap out of a golf ball, others say it comes from his love of fast cars and even faster bikes. Ask any lady who has had the pleasure of getting 'up close and personal' with his silkenly carpeted frame and she will tell you, that was the wildest turbo-charged 20 second ride I've ever taken!

In preparing for the 06 Guvna's Classic, Turbs has limited himself to a strict diet of Drum rollies and sex, the combination that has seen him achieve a single figure handicap and it's what he believes will take him to glory once again. When asked about his chances of regaining the title Turbs becomes a bit tight lipped and his only comment is "nah chicks." One thing is for certain, if Turbs doesn't crack the 06 Classic' he will be giving himself and the longest drive competition a red hot go!

2. Adam "The Guvna" Hindmarch (pictured left)

Adam, known to his mates as Guv, is a long standing associate of the Turbo Swingers and has been the major sponsor of the Guvna's Classic since it's inception. Guv knows when to hold'em, knows when to fold'em, know's when to walk away and knows when to run!

In 2002, with 41 stableford points there was tie for first place in the 2nd Guvna's Classic. A countback took place which resulted in Guv winning the event that he had sponsored. Elated and somewhat confused at the irony of having donated a trophy that was taking up too much room at home only to win it back again, Guv walked away from the event with the feeling only a true champion knows! Well that was at least until he got home and had to explain to the Guvnaress (pictured in the background above) that the trophy was coming home for "holiday" -lets just say this led to a spell in the "dog-house."

This year Guv has decided, much to the relief of the Guvnaress that he will most likely not recontest the title and take a more active role in the organisation of the game.

Why play in the Guvna's Classic???

Well of course there are some fantastic prizes on offer and a full list of our sponsors will be posted closer to the day.

There is the warm and fuzzy feeling you will get knowing that your money is going to a worthwhile cause, the Leukaemia Foundation.

Then there is the obvious reason: escaping your partner for the day and heading out for a "whack" with a bunch of great blokes and enjoying a can or two after the game.

These are all great reasons to play in the classic but surely the real reason has to be to win the event and get your name alongside the previous champions of the game, Peter "Turbo" Beilby and Adam "the Guvna" Hindmarch, on the perpetual trophy!!

This "Mac-Daddy" stands nearly a metre tall and would take pride of place in your trophy room, shed, lounge, or bedroom if you really want to piss the missus off!!

Well it's official.

The Turbo Swingers are holding the 3rd 'Guvna's Classic' on Sunday 22nd October 2006 at the Royal Patawalonga (Adelaide Shores) Golf Course, Military Road, West Beach.

Entry to this years Classic is $35 and includes an 18 hole stableford match with a number of competitions held during the game - Nearest to Pin/Longest Drive etc.. Registrations start at 8.30am and tee off is 9.00 a.m. sharp.

Following the game there will be a sausage sizzle, presentations, a charity auction (details of the items to be auctioned will be posted in due course so start saving your money now!) and of course the most important thing at the end of 18 holes, a few beers!

So come and join in the action! There are a number of fantastic prizes on offer and remember, all proceeds from the event will be kindly donated to the Leukaemia Foundation.
